Philip Howie, Artist Profile

This promotional profile of my brother, Philip Howie, shows his passion for the human form and his relentless effort to create figurative sculpture from his home and studio in Catskill, N.Y. After this video was completed, Phil suffered a serious stroke that debilitated the right side of his body and reduced his ability to speak and communicate. Despite these physical setbacks, he has managed to convert himself to a left-handed artist, and he is now making sculptures and drawings using only his left hand. I have collected extensive footage of Phil before and after his stroke and hope to combine these into a mini-documentary titled “From Right to Left.”
