The three-minute video above shows excerpts of personal essays and book excerpts published in literary journals including the Sonora Review, the Sycamore Review and The Brooklyn Rail. The essay themes tend to revolve around masculine identities and social justice. For example, “Mira Flores,” recounts my experience running the bulls with my brother Mark and watching him attempt to fight a bull only to be knocked down and nearly gored. In “Losing Heart,” I recount my family’s experience of slowly losing my father to Parkinson’s Disease, and how his will seemed to live on even as his muscles and brain began to falter.
